His key move is mechanical. Your eyes don't glide across a scene; they jump. These jumps are called saccades — dozens every second, snapping from point to point, each landing roughly one new snapshot. Bejan argues that saccade frequency drops with age. The eyes flick less often. The neural pathways degrade. The body grows larger and slower, so nerve signals travel farther and take longer. Fewer snapshots captured, fewer frames to remember. The clock ticks identically for a child and an adult, but the inner film of a seven-year-old runs richer and slower.
